Fitting a Chimney Balloon
| Step 1. Open the package and make sure you have the appropriate sized Chimney Balloon and the accessories if applicable. You can see what size chimney balloon you have by looking at the white cap which is located in the centre of the top of the chimney balloon. | ![]() |
| Step 2. Remove the elastic band to free the chimney balloon. Retain the red tag as you will place this in your fire grate or somewhere similar to remind you that your chimney balloon is installed. This will help remind you to remove the chimney balloon before lighting a fire. | |
| Step 3. Unroll your Chimney Balloon so it can be easily inflated. Attach the flexible inflation tube to the hand grip that is also the air valve. Make sure the valve lever is set to the open position, with the lever in line with the handle. | ![]() |
| Step 4. Fit the accessories together now. The extended hand grip should be fitted to the existing handle and the spare tap if applicable added to the end of the extended grip. If you have an inflation tube, fit it to the spare tap. | ![]() |

|
| Step 5. Partially inflate the chimney balloon by blowing into it until it starts to get bigger and take shape. It should now resemble a floppy pillow. Do not make it too big at this stage or it won’t fit up into the chimney. If you find your inflation tube is not of adequate length, you can purchase a 1/2 inch ID (inside diameter) Poly tube of whatever length you desire, and it will work just fine. | ![]() |
**At this point we recommend that you wear a pair of safety glasses.** |
|
| Step 6. (With safety glasses on), Look up into your chimney and decide the best place to locate the Chimney Balloon. Use a torch to help see properly if necessary. You will need two relatively parallel walls so the chimney balloon can grip well once inflated further. Then reach up into the chimney and hold the chimney balloon aloft in the desired location. Be careful to avoid sharp corners and other chimney hardware that could damage the chimney balloon. They are strong but can be torn or punctured if care is not taken. |
|
| Step 7. Now inflate the chimney balloon until it gets big enough to stay in place by itself. When the balloon is inflated enough, turn the tap valve left to the off position. Depending upon the shape of your chimney, the balloon may find a resting place of its own, so gently push the balloon into place. A properly inflated balloon is firm, but not tight like a drum. To test for proper inflation, push in slightly on the inflation tube and it should feel springy like pushing on your thigh with your finger. | ![]() |
| Important! Make sure the inflation valve hangs freely and is not propped on anything. If you accidentally light a fire without removing your balloon, you want the Chimney Balloon to drop freely out of your chimney. | |
| Step 8. Place the red tag in a highly visible place to remind you that the chimney balloon is still installed. In the grate or beside the gas tap are recommended. | ![]() |
